The Project: We are raising money to send 8-10 APO brothers to the Standing Rock Native American Reservation. Students participating in this project will spend 10 days on the reservation in South Dakota learning about the culture of the Lakota tribe and working on several service projects.
Who We Are: We are Alpha Phi Omega, a national, co-ed service fraternity. We are members of the Alpha Gamma Xi chapter with three pillars rooted in friendship, leadership, and service.
The Impact: The goal of this project is to immerse Dayton students in Native American culture to learn about the injustices that indigenous people have experienced historically and continue to experience today. This project makes students challenge their own perceptions/misconceptions surrounding indigenous peoples and gives them the chance to ask meaningful questions. The goal of this trip is to be of service while we are on the reservation, and to share the knowledge we learned there long after we leave.
What Your Gifts Will Do: Your donations will help pay for travel expenses and the cost of food over the trip. We hope to raise enough funds so that no APO brothers are discouraged from going to Standing Rock because of the financial cost.
