The Project
In preparation for our upcoming medical service trip to rural Panama, we are utilizing Flyer Funder, UD's crowdfunding platform, to raise funds to purchase the medical and dental supplies necessary for providing care during our mobile clinics. We will also be using the funds to help cover the costs of flights and program implementation for the students participating in this service project.
Who We Are
A group of University of Dayton students will participate in an international medical service trip to Panama this upcoming March. We will work with Global Brigades, an international non-profit organization focused on sustainability and community empowerment, as well as with local community members to provide these under-resourced communities with medical and dental healthcare. Dentists and medical doctors will provide consultation, services, and treatments as student volunteers will work alongside conducting triage, shadowing healthcare professionals, and offering “Charlas”– discussions with local community members to highlight the best healthcare practices.
The Impact
This brigade will allow students to serve others while learning about healthcare in an area where it is extremely limited. There will also be opportunities to learn about the people and culture of Panama during the visit, thus employing UD’s mission of service and scholarship. On the trip we will learn about the importance of collaboration, sustainability, and respect for others through interactions with community members. Not only will this international medical experience equip us with a better understanding of the complexities of providing healthcare in underserved patient populations, but such first-hand experience will help shape our futures as aspiring healthcare professionals.
What Your Gifts Will Do
The money contributed to this crowdfunding campaign will help fund the supplies necessary for providing quality care during our clinics in Panama. All medical and dental supplies that are not used during our clinics will be donated to these local communities, so newly-trained healthcare workers can continue to provide simple medical care after our visit. Additionally, all funds raised beyond the cost of supplies will be used to help lower the cost of flights for all participating students. Unfortunately, this year, the flights are nearly double what they have been in the past, so this has added a significant cost for those participating in the program. Gifts of all sizes will make a difference!

Good morning,
Thank you for your previous support of the University of Dayton's pre-med and pre-dental students! Their trip to Panama last school year was life-changing for all involved.
After a successful trip to Panama last school year, a new group of students are preparing to make their way south to learn, lead and serve. Their trip to Panama is not possible without your support!

This is Catherine Birch! As I’ve mentioned before, I am one of the three student leaders for this year’s brigade to Panama. I wanted to reach out yet again as our campaign closes this Tuesday, January 31st. With only a couple of days left, we’re hopeful for one final push in our fundraising efforts.
This past weekend, we had the pleasure of attending a Vietnamese Dinner Fundraiser. On behalf of our group, I would like to sincerely thank the Tran and Nguyen family for their hospitality as well as for the wonderful meal. Our group had the opportunity to share more about our brigade with all who attended, and we enjoyed spending time with one another as well as with the providers that will be accompanying us in March.
With our trip quickly approaching, all of us students have continued to focus on perfecting our triage skills in combination with our medical Spanish so that we are best prepared to serve the rural Panamanian communities. We are incredibly excited for the opportunity that lies ahead, and we are filled with gratitude by all who have supported our brigade thus far. Again, thank you all so much!
Sincerely,
Catherine Birch ‘24

My name is Emily Bryan, and I am a third-year Pre-Medicine student here at the University of Dayton. I participated in the medical brigade to Panama in March of 2022 (see photo below!), and I am a student leader for the upcoming brigade.
Currently, we are preparing for our brigade by studying Panama’s culture and health care system, and as we near our departure date, we are busy organizing supplies and practicing our triage skills as well.
As someone who has previously been on this service trip with Global Brigades, I wanted to share a bit about the impact that last year's brigade has had on me. It was a very humbling experience as we worked in solidarity with local community members. Meeting others that live a different lifestyle and learning about their experiences has helped me grasp a better understanding of the impact that Global Brigades has had on their community. However, this experience was not limited to the trip itself. Our group spent the semester learning about the sustainability and ethics of our brigade, and we shared meaningful reflections with our peers as well.
On behalf of our group this year, I would like to thank those who have donated thus far; your support will help us purchase the supplies necessary for our brigade. We greatly appreciate everyone’s contributions to help make this trip a success. Please keep sharing this page with others so that we may reach our goal!
All my best,
Emily Bryan ‘24

Hello everyone!
My name is Benjamin Wilch, I am a second-year predental student at the University of Dayton. I hope you had a great holiday season and are having a terrific start to the new year!
In March of this year, I will be one of the leaders on an International Medical Experience trip to Panama where we will be caring for residents of the country and gaining experience as medical students.
We are officially less than two months from our departure, and are very busy finalizing our plans and looking for donations and financial support to help provide care for the people we will be serving. If you have already contributed, we appreciate your donation, and if you have not yet, we would like to ask you to seriously consider contributing to our mission - your generous contributions are greatly appreciated and will be used as we begin to purchase all of the supplies necessary to make this trip a success.
With only three weeks left for our donation campaign, your contributions become even more important to the success of this trip. Please continue to share our page with others you know and are affiliated with as each donation significantly helps our cause. More information about the trip and a link to the donation page can be found here, https://www.givecampus.com/deofop.
Thank you all so much, and Happy New Year!
