About

The Project

The Multi-Ethnic STEM Summer Bridge Program is a one-week residential program that facilitates a successful transition from high school to College for underrepresented minority students pursuing STEM degrees. Students engage in a number of community building, academic enrichment and professional development activities throughout their weeklong experience.

Who We Are

The School of Engineering and the College of Arts and Sciences have partnered each year since 2007 to host the Multi-Ethnic STEM Summer Bridge Program. This program was the first of its kind at UD, and offers incoming students an opportunity to get a head start on building the necessary connections for a successful transition to their STEM disciplines.

The STEM Summer Bridge Program was established at UD in efforts to combat inequitable underrepresented minority student retention rates in STEM disciplines. The STEM Summer Bridge Program at UD follows an evidence-based National model in which underrepresented minority students in STEM gain exposure to the essential skills, social and academic connections critical to their early persistence and continued success as emerging STEM professionals.

The Impact

The core objectives of the Multi-Ethnic STEM Summer Bridge Program are to:

  1. Promote sense of belonging as STEM students at UD.
  2. Facilitate connections and relationship building among STEM students, faculty and staff.
  3. Help students build and maintain self-efficacy as STEM majors.

Hear what a few prior participants have said about their STEM Summer Bridge experience:

“The amount of advice from current students, alumni and all other organizations that support STEM students is truly priceless.” - 2015 STEM Participant

“It reviews crucial topics and classes along with allowing me to network and feel supported prior to the upcoming school year.” - 2018 STEM Participant

“It gave me a great introduction to college expectations and great, motivational information.” - 2019 STEM Participant

What Your Gifts Will Do

The Multi-Ethnic STEM Summer Bridge program has historically been offered at no cost to students to ensure equitable access to this valuable experience. The financial impacts of COVID have led to increased uncertainty in the sustainability of fully funding programs such as these. With your financial support, we can continue to provide this one-week residential program to emerging STEM talent in a way that does not compromise the integrity of the program, and allows the UD STEM Summer Bridge program to offer a comparable experience that meets both National and Institutional goals around Multi-Ethnic STEM student success and persistence.

Join us today in keeping the UD Multi-Ethnic STEM Summer Bridge Program legacy alive! Hitting our goal of $7,500 will fully fund this experience for 10 students!

Thank you for your part in supporting emerging Multi-Ethnic STEM talent at UD!

THANK YOU!!

On behalf of the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Engineering I wanted to send a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to the Multi-Ethnic STEM Summer Bridge Program Flyer Funder Campaign.

With your help we were able to raise over $10,000 to support the AMAZINGLY TALENTED STEM students who will be starting at the University of Dayton in a few short months! Your generosity will allow us to offset costs of the STEM Summer Bridge Program so that we can continue to offer it at no charge to students, making this very impactful program accessible to all!

We are extremely grateful to have such an amazing community of alumni, faculty, staff, friends, industry partners, and even parents who have selflessly rallied around this cause, and helped to confirm what we already knew, which is that the STEM Summer Bridge Program is the catalyst for building community and having a meaningful experience at the University of Dayton in STEM.

Thank you all again, and go Flyers!

Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 6th is ONE DAY ONE DAYTON, the University’s annual day of giving. It is also the last day to raise money through our team’s crowdfunding campaign for the STEM Summer Bridge Program.

Gifts of any amount made to this crowdfunding campaign will not only support efforts for STEM, but will also help the University reach its goal of 4,000 One Day, One Dayton donors!

Please join me in making one last push to encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to donate to this amazing program that is the STEM Summer Bridge Program at the University of Dayton! Feel free to circle back yourself and make a second gift like I did! :)

One week into our Campaign

Sending a huge THANK YOU to all those who have been able to make a gift, small and large, to the Multi-Ethnic STEM Summer Bridge Program Flyer Funder! It has been nostalgic seeing so many alumni and friends of the program send us fond memories, messages of support, and making donations to this program which has meant so much to many!

We are already more than halfway to our goal of $7500 with 3 more weeks to go! Please join us in continuing to keep the momentum of support going for the STEM Summer Bridge Flyer Funder by doing one of the following:

  1. Share our project on your social media accounts or with folks who you think will be interested in supporting this amazing cause via email, text, etc.
  2. Share your personal story about why the STEM Summer Bridge Program was so important for you as an alumni, parent of an alumni, current student, or as a faculty or staff member, camp leader, industry partner, or advocate of the program!
  3. Make a donation or encourage others to donate by starting a challenge or matching gifts.

We again thank all who have donated so far, and are excited as we move into week 2 of this Flyer Funder campaign.  Maybe we can surpass our original $7500 goal, and get to $10,000 together!  It would mean a lot to the emerging generation of STEM professionals at UD!
