The Project
The UD New Horizons Program is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary. Our project will bring
Dr. Roy Ernst, Professor Emeritus, of the Eastman School of Music, and founder of the
International New Horizons Program to Dayton to enrich our program and make our
members better musicians.
Who We Are
The UD New Horizons Music Program’s purpose is to provide music making activities
for adults. Many of our members once played an instrument as a youth or some never
had the opportunity and want to learn to play music. Our program includes a beginning
band, 2 concert bands, 2 jazz bands, beginning strings, intermediate strings, and a
string orchestra. We also have small ensembles. Examples of our current ensembles
are the German Band (Viel Spaß), a flute choir (Trill Seekers), a saxophone group
(Golden Saxophone Quartet), a clarinet group (The Licorice Stix) and a woodwind group
(the Woodland Winds). We perform at several free public concerts each year as well as
local nursing homes and private events.
The Impact
The project will reinforce the commitment of members to learn and to master their
chosen instrument and will help guide the organization into the future.
What Your Gifts Will Do
During his 3-day visit to Dayton in the spring, Dr. Ernst will work directly with all UD New
Horizons music ensembles through rehearsals, hold a special strategic planning
session with the UD New Horizons leadership, guest conduct New Horizons ensembles
during the 25th anniversary celebration concert at the Glass Center and provide special
remarks to members, families, and friends of UD New Horizons at the closing 25th
anniversary reception at the Glass Center for the Arts. It will be an honor to host Dr.
Ernst as we celebrate our growth and successes, and to set the stage for our next 25
years!
