New Horizons Music Program

The Project   

The UD New Horizons Music Program will commemorate its 20^th anniversary by sponsoring six workshops for senior adults led by music professionals on a variety of subjects ranging from sharing musical memories to using the body as a percussion instrument.

Who We Are  

The New Horizons Music Program is sponsored by the University of Dayton Office of Continuing Education and Special Programs to provide music making activities for seniors.  Many of our members once played an instrument as a youth or some never had the opportunity and want to learn to play music.  We have a concert band, a jazz band and small ensembles.  Examples of our current ensembles are the German Band (Viel Spaß), a flute choir (Trill Seekers), a saxophone group (Golden Saxophone Quartet), and a clarinet group (The Licorice Stix).  We perform at several free public concerts each year as well as local nursing homes and private events.

The Impact  

The workshops will reinforce the commitment of members to learn and to master their chosen instrument and will attract new members to participate in other life-long learning opportunities.  They will broaden our musical horizons and provide an opportunity to meet others with similar interests. 

What Your Gifts Will Do  

Donations to this project will enable our program to sponsor music workshops by paying for instructors and event space.  This will allow us to provide high quality musical education through these workshops to our participants at a very low cost.
