About

The Project:

The goal of Project SafeRide is to make the sport of horseback riding more affordable and available to all interested University of Dayton students by raising $3,500 to purchase a stock of ten (10) ASTM certified riding helmets in various sizes that may be used by members who cannot afford their own riding helmet. These helmets are often the most expensive part of any equestrian uniform, costing an average of at least three hundred dollars ($300) for a midline certified helmet. Because we welcome riders of all backgrounds to our club, many do not already own a certified helmet. The high cost of this equipment drives potential members away, even though it is essential for riding safety. Project SafeRide will guarantee that every University of Dayton student can learn how to ride a horse without a concern for the cost of basic safety equipment.

Who We Are:

The purpose of the Equestrian Club is to promote high standards of horsemanship, sportsmanship, character, leadership, and fellowship in all members through equine sports and activities. We also promote knowledge and skill in the handling and care of horses, as well as in interdisciplinary equine practices. Our riding lessons/practices take place at Ends Meet Equestrian, a private equine facility located in Centerville, Ohio. In addition to lessons, members have the option to compete in competitions through the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. Through IHSA, the University of Dayton Equestrian Club competes with the Otterbein Equestrian Team, the Ohio State University Equestrian Team, the Ohio University Equestrian Team, and other colleges from southern/central Ohio. We also fulfill our commitment to community service through volunteer work with the Therapeutic Riding Institute, a facility in Lebanon, OH that is dedicated to better living through equine assisted therapy for the disabled.

 The Impact:

The Equestrian Club is a great way for students to socialize, exercise, and learn a new skill in a safe, positive environment! A large part of our club’s activities are horseback riding lessons. In these lessons, club members learn not only how to ride a horse, but also learn horsemanship, leadership, and responsibility. Donating to Project SafeRide will ensure that every University of Dayton student will be able to enjoy the sport of horseback riding without having to worry about the cost of safety.

What Your Gifts Will Do:

In order to participate in lessons, competitions, and other activities where members will be physically riding a horse, the Equestrian Club requires that each member ride in equestrian attire, including an ASTM standard certified helmet. Your gift to our campaign will ensure that students from all backgrounds can learn and enjoy the sport of horseback riding safely for years to come!
