Who We Are
We are the University of Dayton's Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) chapter. SHPE’s vision is a world where Hispanics/Latinos are highly valued and influential as the leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. SHPE changes lives by empowering the Hispanic/Latino community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support, and development.
Our goal here on UD's campus is to inspire the growing number of Hispanics/Latinos in STEM. Being an engineer is hard but its all worth it when you have your SHPE familia's support. We strive to make the success of our members our top priority.
The Project
SHPE conventions are both a great opportunities for our members to network as well as a great way to work on growing into the engineers of the future. Our goal is to raise the funds to send 4-6 students to both the national and regional conventions. This year's national convention is in Salt Lake City, Utah and the regional convention is in Indianapolis March 7-9, 2025. Funds raised through this campaign will help cover travel fees and overall registration costs for our members.
The Impact
With your support, we can send our members to one of the biggest career fair and professional development seminars in the country. We believe that education is the best way to learn and grown. Learning and growing as a person goes beyond time spent in a classroom. It takes going out and trying to become a better person through workshops and putting yourself out there. We strive to one day take the lead in innovating a safe future for the next generation of Latinos in STEM and with your help we can do that.
What Your Gifts Will Do
Financially your gifts will help pay for flights, registration, hotel stays and any other costs it would take to 4-6 students to conferences. We want to do our best to lower the cost of sending our students to these great opportunities.
Teaching students to be confident and to be proud of their culture in their fields of study is so important and a lesson that will stay with them for life. SHPE has so much to offer to its students, as it is more than a club but a familia, that will now and always provide students support. Giving students a chance to see representation in the fields they want to pursue and showing them they are not alone. This is what your gift gives us.
