About

The Project
University of Dayton Irish Dance (UDID) is attending the 2024 Collegiate Irish Dance Nationals at Iona University in New Rochelle, New York. Our team is composed of 16 dancers who are eager to represent the University of Dayton at the competition. We will be competing in both team and solo competitions. In order to cover travel expenses, entry fees, and costuming we are looking to fundraise through Flyer Funder, UD's crowdfunding platform. We are hoping to alleviate the stress of costs on individual team members and the University, so that UDID can focus on representing the University of Dayton in the best way possible. We are extremely excited for the opportunity to compete!

Who We Are
Established in 2007, UD Irish Dance provides the opportunity for college students to share in their love for Irish Dance. The team is made up of students who have been dancing and competing since a young age, those who are still competing, and those who have never learned any Irish Dancing until joining the team. Although a diverse background in experience, our team all shares one common goal of spreading the joy of Irish culture. The team offers a welcoming and encouraging environment to all. We've had the privilege this year to perform at two UD basketball games, various cultural events, and are scheduled to perform at multiple locations over the St. Patrick’s Day season. UDID has also hosted the Flyer Feis for multiple years, where collegiate Irish Dance teams travel to UD and compete against each other. This year, for the first time, UDID will be competing at Collegiate Irish Dance Nationals which is an exciting opportunity for the organization and shows the growth the team has achieved over the years.

The Impact
The University of Dayton strives to create a community where all students can pursue their passions and grow together and as individuals. UD Irish Dance creates a space and opportunity for those who are passionate about Irish Dance to come together. UDID is a welcoming environment and represents the vast Irish heritage on campus. Traveling and participating alongside other Irish Dance collegiate groups allows us to showcase talent and hard work. It raises awareness about UDID and draws others to the team who want to be a part of a community that celebrates Irish heritage.

What Your Gifts Will Do
The funds raised will be used to cover the cost of travel expenses, entry fees, and costuming. It will allow the team to represent the University of Dayton in the best way possible. Eliminating the stress of costs on individual members of the team and UD will allow for complete focus on perfecting the competition pieces that will be performed. Funds for entry fees will allow the team to compete both in groups and individually. UD Irish dance will compete with two 8-hand teams, three 4-hand teams, 11 soloists, and one fun number!

Thanks for Your Support!
Any support is greatly appreciated by our team and will help lead to a successful competition. The team is extremely grateful for the opportunity to travel and compete at the 2024 Collegiate Irish Dance Nationals. Nationals Update!

This update is posted on behalf of UD Irish Dance.

Hello Everyone,

Exciting news! This past weekend UD Irish Dance competed at the 2024 Collegiate Irish Dance Nationals! We are proud to say we are bringing home the FIRST PLACE trophy for the Fun Number! We could not be more excited. Our winning dance is called "Flyer Airlines" and the video can be seen below! We are so proUD and excited to share. This would not have been possible without the support we received through this campaign!

UDID Flyer Airlines

Other mentions include one of our 4-Hands that placed 5th out of 20 teams! Sean Dwyer who placed FIRST in the junior solo competition! Our other soloists Kathryn, Erin, Cara, Kate, and Ally placed 2nd, 4th, 6th, 4th, and 5th, respectively. Shout out to our other 4-Hand and two 8-Hands that also shined on stage!

Again, THANK YOU! We cannot express our gratitude for the support you provided. Without you, we would not have had the opportunity to attend the event. It means the world to us.

GO FLYERS!

One Week to Go!

This update is posted on behalf of UD Irish Dance.

Hello everyone!

We cannot believe we are about 2 weeks away from competing at the 2024 Collegiate Irish Dance Nationals. We are working super hard on perfecting our dances and are excited to compete with them.

This past month we were busy with all things St. Patrick's Day and preparing for Nationals. We got the opportunity to perform on the news for Good Day Dayton and with the band Scythian. We also performed at Flanagan's Pub and Dublin Pub in the Dayton area. All the outings were successful and we had so much fun.

We cannot thank everyone enough for all the support we have received so far through our Flyer Funder page. It is still open for one more week so please continue to spread our message. We are so grateful!

One Week Down: Thank You!

This update has been posted on behalf of the UD Irish Dance team.

Hello everyone,

After a little over a week of fundraising so are so grateful to announce that we have reached our goal fundraising amount! This could not be possible without the immense support we have received. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

This past weekend on Saturday, March 9, we held our Shamrock Showcase in KU Boll Theatre. It was so exciting to see everyone there. We performed 11 numbers total that ranged from traditional ceili dances to a Shipping Up to Boston hardshoe number. We even debuted our Fun Number called Flyer Airlines that we will be competing with at the 2024 Collegiate Nationals. It was a great show!

Thank you again for all the support we have been shown.

Bring on Nationals and Happy St. Patrick's Day!
