About

Our Project:

We are raising money to spend 9 weeks this summer working in Salyersville, Kentucky. We will be serving and building relationships with members of the community through a number of different programs we will be organizing and running. These include a Day Camp for the younger children, a Teen Center, and visiting a local nursing home. The UDSAP team will work with all ages in the community to improve their lives, and change our own. Besides helping the community, the UDSAP team will be learning to live life simply in a faith based community. We will be recycling and reusing things and working daily to improve our relationships with God through daily prayer and faith activities. UDSAP is one of the University’s oldest and most beloved programs, and we are so excited to continue the tradition this summer!

Who We Are:

We are a group of UD students who choose to spend the summer in community with the residents of Salyersville, Kentucky.  We dedicate ourselves to relational service to this community, and in turn this community leaves an impact on us. UDSAP is supported by UD Campus Ministry and we live through the Marianist values that define our faith.  Since the beginning of UDSAP 52 years ago, our values of simplicity, community, prayer, faith, and service have built a strong bond with the community of Salyersville.

The Impact:

The people of Salyersville could not be more grateful for the work we will be doing. They value the UDSAP program so highly and hold it as a staple of their summers. For the past 52 years the program has touched the lives of many members of the community. Not only has it changed the lives of the residents of Salyersville, but it has also changed the life of every person who has devoted their summer to UDSAP. It changes their worldview and teaches them to live simply

What Your Gifts Will Do:

Your gifts make this entire summer possible. From letting us live out a summer of service, to being able to play games with the kids and bingo at the nursing home, your donations make it happen! For the past 52 years, Dayton students have been forming relationships with the Salyersville community full of joy, laughs, understanding, and love.

Share This Message:

It’s clear that there are so many things to love about UDSAP, and we only hope to spread it further! Please share this post with friends, family, and colleagues so that our story, the story of Salyersville, and the countless stories in the past 52 years of UDSAP can continue to grow.

Thanks for Your Support:

Your donation to UDSAP is greatly appreciated!  It is impossible for our program and the other service programs of Campus Ministry to run on just our history; we need the help of our extended family and friends with prayerful and financial support.  Your contributions will not only support our UDSAP community—they will help serve the Salyersville community by providing fiscal assistance for the day camp, teen center and nursing home.

Update #2

Hello! We are nearly 50% of the way to our goal… that’s right, that means we will finally get to see what Marty has in store for us! Thank you so much for your continued support!! Our community is absolutely OVERJOYED and could not be more grateful for the help we are receiving to make this summer a possibility.

We would like to welcome John Pieper and Jake Damanskis, the two newest members of UDSAP 18! Now there are officially 14 UD students spending the summer in Salyersville. As a community, we have continued our weekly formation meetings. Sunday night, we began to focus our discussion on Appalachian culture and challenging our preconceived notions about the region. We are eager to enter the summer with open minds that will allow us to fully immerse ourselves in the community of Salyersville and build meaningful relationships with the people we meet.

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we continue to prepare for this summer. We cannot wait for what is to come!

Update #1

Hey everybody!

Thank you so much for your support thus far. Less than a week in, and we are already at 28% of our goal! We would like to give a special shoutout to Patrick and Aimee Matyas for their generous contribution. All of your help goes such a long way in helping our community and the people of Salyersville!

Our community has begun preparing for the summer with weekly formation meetings. This past Sunday we selected our jobs for the summer to decide who is taking on what role in the community. We are all getting to know each other better, which only is exciting us more for the summer!! Please keep spreading the word to friends and family about the work we are doing this summer. Any contributions go such a long way in making this summer possible.

Thank you again for the support thus far. Rumor also has it that Marty Palmasani will have a surprise video for you all when we reach 50% of our goal. Stay tuned…
