The Project
We are raising money to spend 9 weeks this summer working in Salyersville, Kentucky. We will be serving and building relationships with members of the community through a number of different programs we will be organizing and running. These include a Day Camp for children, a Teen Center, and visiting a local nursing home. In addition to working within the community, the UDSAP community will be learning to live life simply in a faith based community. UDSAP is one of the University’s oldest and most beloved programs, and we are so excited to continue the tradition this summer!
Who We Are
We are a group of UD students who choose to spend the summer in community with the residents of Salyersville, Kentucky. We represent majors from all over the University, and we are all different ages. We come from all over the United States, and we also have several international students with diverse faith backgrounds as a part of our community this year. We are excited to build this intentional community together throughout the summer.
The Impact
UDSAP's impact is near to impossible to measure. Over the course of 60 years we have walked with the community of Salyersville as they have grown and changed. Along the way, Salyersville has also walked with UD students as their world views are challenged and transformed. Mutual relationships define UDSAP, and our continued hope and goal is to meet needs of the community while also building relationships that go beyond 9 weeks each summer.
What Your Gifts Will Do
Your gifts make this entire summer possible. From letting us live out a summer of service, to being able to play games with the kids and bingo at the nursing home, your donations make it happen! For the past 60 years, Dayton students have been forming relationships with the Salyersville community full of joy, laughs, understanding, and love.
It’s clear that there are so many things to love about UDSAP, and we only hope to spread it further! Please share this post with friends, family, and colleagues so that our story, the story of Salyersville, and the countless stories in the past 60 years of UDSAP can continue to grow.
Thanks for Your Support!
Your donation to UDSAP is greatly appreciated! It is impossible for our program and the other service programs of Campus Ministry to run on just our history; we need the help of our extended family and friends with prayerful and financial support. Your contributions will not only support our UDSAP community—they will help serve the Salyersville community by providing fiscal assistance for the day camp, teen center and nursing home.
Hello all!
The weekend before Easter, several folks from the UDSAP 2024 community went to Salyersville, KY to the UDSAP house. We explored the town a bit, met some of the kids and teens we will be working with, and got to experience a little bit of what the summer will be like. The weather was beautiful, though a bit chilly, and we had a great time getting to know one another outside of our weekly one credit minicourse! Here are some photos from the trip!
Today we held Table Hours outside of KU! We invited our friends and people walking by to donate to our campaign for their choice of an Ale8, cookie, muffin, or the chance to pie an UDSAPer! It was pretty chilly, but our spirits were high! We had a great time talking about UDSAP with other UD students, and some of us even got an extra helping of whipped cream!
Thanks to all who have donated already. We are so amazed with how our family, friends, and alumni have showed up for this campaign. Your gift means so much to us and our UDSAP 2024 community.
