Society of Automotive Engineers Baja Team

The Project
The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) holds yearly collegiate design competitions for hundreds of universities around the world. In Baja SAE, engineering students are tasked with designing and building a single-seat, all-terrain sporting vehicle that is to be a prototype for a reliable, maintainable, ergonomic, and economic production vehicle that serves a recreational user market. The students must function as a team to design, engineer, build, test, promote, and compete with a vehicle within the limits of the rules. 

Who We Are
We are the University of Dayton's chapter of SAE and the Baja team. UD has not raced in an SAE competition since the early 2000s! We recently competed in September and placed 38th out of 79 overall! We restarted the club with three roommates in 2022 and now have over 40 members. We are looking forward to designing and building our next car for the 2024-2025 school year. 

The Impact
Participating in the Baja design competition provides students with opportunities to develop technical skills, gain leadership experience, and grow a professional network. The design and build process allows students to apply classroom education to real-world engineering problems. The competition event serves as a career fair with many companies such as Honda, Polaris, Ford, and GM recruiting for internships and full-time hires.
